I'm bored. Nothing to do. Los Angeles is like that.
Caught the Amtrak train to San Diego. It is a good service with plenty of leg room and it is clean. Not expensive either - $24 from LA to San Diego Santa Fe station which is in the middle of downtown.
After leaving Santa Ana station the train is never much future than 500 metres from the coast and beaches. Beautiful weather and and everyone is out enjoying it.
The hostel is in the Gaslamp Quarter. The are is very similar to Lygon Street in that it has all the restaurants on the footpath with sprukers trying to get 
you eat at their establishment.
