Called in at Compton ( the better part of Compton that is ) where the warehouse is situated. Still no Carnet but I took up station in the foyer and kept in the receptionist's face. They were a bit embarrassed by my presence but it worked and the Carnet was courier delivered by morning tea time.
Headed south through the LA traffic. Makes Sydney and Melbourne traffic seem tame by any measure but after a couple of hours I turned onto the Pacific Coast Highway and that is quite pretty along the coast.
The weather could not be better.
Stopped at Luguna Beach for lunch. Nice spot and all the lovelies were out sun baking. Ah all is good in the world and things are looking up at last. Obviously a money address or is it just that I have been staying in the slums for so long?
Turned left inland just past Oceanside. Hey there is a road there that is bikers' heaven. Miles and miles of twisties through the mountains. Now this is living but not to much in the way of knees down stuff just yet until I get the hang of driving on the right hand side.
Reached a lovely little town at the top of the mountain, Julian. First thing I noticed was the smell of cooking and I sought it out. I found the best pie shop in the world - 'Moms Pies'. Had a feast of American apple pie and it was bloody beautiful.
Stayed the night in California's oldest registered hotel - the Julian Hotel. The bed was four feet off the floor but I climbed in and slept like a contented baby.
